July 1 – Bill Clinton becomes the Democratic nominee for President at the Democratic National Convention held in New York City.

July 10 – General Manuel Noriega, former leader of Panama, is sentenced to 40 years on drug charges.
July 31 – The ex-Soviet Republic of Georgia becomes the 179th member of the United Nations.
