PMP and CAPM Certification Exam Fees

One of my long-standing suggestions for PMP® and CAPM® candidates has been to schedule your PMP® or CAPM® exam as soon as possible after your application is approved.  I have recommended this because rescheduling the exam has always been free if done at least two days prior to the scheduled exam date.   Well, that will soon no longer be the case.

Effective April 1, 2012, candidates who are scheduled to take any certification exam awarded by PMI, including the PMP® and CAPM® exams, will be assessed a fee of $70 if they reschedule or cancel their test within 30 days of their scheduled test date at Prometric.

According to Keith Rosenbaum of PMI, “Today, test center seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and there is no current rescheduling/cancellation fee. Candidates are able to reschedule or cancel their exams at any time as long as they do so before they are within two days of their scheduled exam appointment, at which point, the entire exam fee is forfeited if they cannot make the appointment. While many candidates take their exams as scheduled, those who wait until the last minute to reschedule or cancel are “reserving” seats that could be used by others.”

Rosenbaum also explained that extenuating circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis in the event that someone has an emergency within 30 days of their scheduled exam.

More information is available on the PMI website at https://www.pmi.org/GLOBALS/2012-Rescheduling-Fees-FAQs.aspx

I will still recommend that candidates schedule their exam as soon as possible.  Now they may want to decide sooner if they can work with their original deadline.  Oh, the joys of project management!
